n September 23rd 1952, the monastery was raised to the status of an Abbey, and the Right Reverend Dom Odule Sylvain was elected as its first Abbot of Saint-Benoit-du-Lac.

uring his 30 years of tenure, the guesthouse and the crypt of the church were erected. The plans are those of Dom Claude-Marie Côté, a monk of the house and a disciple of Dom Bellot.

fter Dom Sylvain’s resignation in 1983, the Right Reverend Dom Jacques Garneau was elected as his successor and second Abbot of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac.Under his direction, in 1990, work was begun on the construction of the Abbey church according to the plans of Mr. Dan Hanganu, of Montreal.

od favouring the project, the monks were able to celebrate the Solemn Dedication of their church on December 4th, 1994, the 82nd anniversary of the foundation.


	n May 20th 2006, the Right Reverend Dom André Laberge was elected third Abbot of Saint-Benoit-du-Lac.
